Campaign for total opposition to ‘dodgy trade deals’

#STUC2016 UNISON’s Pat Rowland urged delegates to get involved in the campaign against ‘dodgy trade deals’ like TTIP that could stop governments bringing privatised services back in-house.

And she called on trade unionists to join the Scotland Against TTIP coalition day of action on Saturday 23 April at the Buchanan Street steps in Glasgow.

The STUC backed a UNISON motion to campaign for total opposition to TTIP (Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership) in the Scottish and UK Parliaments and the European Parliament.

TTIP needs international response

#stuc15 The STUC in Ayr heard a stark warning from UNISON’s Jane Carolan that the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) would be “an assault on democratic government”.

TTIP means that public services will face wholesale privatisation, over-ruling any state’s laws or policies through secretive tribunals. Worse still, any service privatised will not be able to be brought back in house.

TTIP - Thatcherism's ultimate triumph

#uNDC14 The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement between the European Union and the USA has "catastrophic implications for public services, not only here in the UK but across Europe," Glasgow's Chris Stephen told delegates, as Conference backed a range of measures to campaign against the treaty's adoption.

"The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership represents Thatcherism's ultimate triumph," said Chris. "It takes us from a mixed economy to a market economy with all of our public services, especially the NHS, at the mercy of global corporations.
