Resources to fight for living wage

#uNDC11 Local Government Conference threw its weight behind a Scotland call for a national living wage.

The union will now provide branches with resources to take the campaign forward. Moving the motion, Regional Delegate Scott Donohoe said, “In Scotland around eight of the 32 councils have made a commitment to paying the living wage, currently set at £7.15 an hour and it remains a key part of our pay claim and bargaining strategy”.

Slamming the ‘race to the bottom’ undermining conditions in privatised contracts, Scott insisted that Employers who actually paid the living wage reap the benefits from “reduced staff turnover, lower absences, a more motivated workforce and an enhanced reputation”.
