Unison members taking
strike action as part of the national pensions dispute have my support and
solidarity. Pensions are deferred wages, not perks. The UK and Scottish
governments should be getting around the table with the public service trades
unions to negotiate a settlement but instead they have forced the issue to the
point of crisis. Paying more, working longer and getting less is an insult to
hardworking public servants across Scotland, and I will be joining Unison picket
lines in Glasgow to make clear my opposition to the government’s unreasonable
and foolish stance.
