Positive Action in Housing (SC027577) is a small Scottish charity with a global remit. We pioneered the UK’s first refugee hosting scheme in 2004 when we noticed an increasing number of refugees being made absolutely destitute by the UK government. We have 11 years of expertise of safe hosting in this area. Our scheme went viral after the Syria refugee crisis finally came home to people across Europe. Thousands of people volunteered to host refugees and those seeking sanctuary.

We have now upgraded our systems to offer immediate refugee hosting across the UK. We are happy to report that we are speedily and safely accommodating people.

Room for Refugees offers temporary (free) shelter in people’s homes to people from refugee communities who have no recourse to public funds or emergency housing. We prioritise safe hosting. We are a charity, the scheme is entirely voluntary and no money changes hands. We work with “refugee hosts” to help individuals rebuild and stabilise their lives. We may also offer those seeking refugee limited small emergency crisis grants and other practical support (subject to availability).

Referral Partners Invited

Are you a refugee group or aid organisation wishing to refer people from refugee communities in your area for temporary shelter while they regularise their status in this country?

We have a growing list of partner agencies, other charities and NGOs across the UK and Europe, who are now accessing this service for their service users who find themselves without a place to stay.

If you want to use the scheme for destitute refugee/asylum seeking service users, then email home@paih.org for a simple, paperless, quick referral process.

In the future, we intend to provide access to our partners to search the database. We also hope to organise briefings with local refugee network meetings across the UK to inform individuals and partners of the system, discuss current refugee issues and encourage local support.

The quickest way to find out more about this online resource is to email home@paih.org with your query and contact details and we will get straight back to you. Please do not phone as it takes up resources that are meant to directly assist people in emergency situations.

Thank you.
